This trend probably began with There's Something About Mary...as time went on, the idea became less and less funny until, finally, it was just tiresome. For examples see Saving Silberman or Norm Macdonald's Screwed. (A movie that's such a monumental black hole of shittiness that even Dave Chapelle comes off as lame and unfunny)
